Meixiu wakes up in the morning and is shocked to see Chun Siang not next to her. She panics. Kamatchy comforts her. She informs her that Chun Siang had left early in the morning to report to the Japanese. Kamatchy comes back inside the house and realises that Meixiu is out in the woods, screaming out Chun Siang's name. The baby is on her back. She is stopped by two Japanese soldiers ...

Kamatchy is afraid that Vaiju is mute by birth. She is three years old and still hasn't started to talk. But Sockalingam says that maybe she is finding it difficult to pick up the Tamil language. Some babies even start to talk at the age of five or six. Kamatchy is slightly consoled. Vyjayanthi is crying to herself at home. Her mother consoles her and tells her that a little sister or brother will be the one to take care of her.

Young Dev (16) spots Vyjayanthi and tells his friends that she is unique and that he will get her one day. A witch lady appears out of nowhere and predicts the future of Vyjayanthi. She tells her that she is a different person from the rest of them. Vyjayanthi is pulling a long face at home. She is sulking and pouting. Finally, her mother asks what the problem is. Susila is forced to voice out for her.

In this episode, the teacher, Mr. Dharma is introduced. He is twenty-five years old. He has a small run-in with Vyjayanthi. Love between Vyjayanthi and Dev blossoms. Sathappan, a rich wealthy moneylender, moves in as a new neighbour. He immediately takes a fancy to Vyjayanthi, despite her young age. Susila comes running to tell Vyjayanthi that Dev is leaving town. Vyjayanthi runs all the way to the train station. But she never gets to see him ...

Sathappan asks for Vyjayanthi's hand in marriage and is told off by her parents. Sathappan waylays Vyjayanthi as she is on the way home and tries to be funny with her. Susila comes to Vyjayanthi's rescue. She scolds Sathappan and threatens to report him. Susila demands to her parents, that they reprimand Sathappan. But Sockalingam remains quiet. Kamatchy's appeals go unheard as well ...

Vyjayanthi is weeping to herself and tying her little belongings into a bundle. She writes a note to Susila and quietly slips out of the house before dawn break. She walks and walks for miles, crying to herself, not knowing what to do. Parents have found out that Vyjayanthi has run away. News spreads to neighbours. Soon everyone is talking about it. Some come to ask out of concern, some out of scorn.

There's a feud between Sathappan and Dharma when Sathappan tries to be funny with Vyjayanthi on the way back home. Vyjayanthi (18) hears that Dev is back from his further studies. A glimpse of Dev. Vyjayanthi watches Dev from afar. He looks wealthy, immaculately dressed and dashing. Vyjayanthi's and Dev's friendship blossoms into love. Vyjayanthi is disturbed. She brings up the topic of marriage to Dev. Parimalam is shocked to find out about Dev.

Vyjayanthi's mother hears gossip about Dev and Vyjayanthi, and is embarrassed. She confronts Susila about it. Susila protects her sister and denies those rumours. Dharma tries to broach the topic of marriage to Vyjayanthi. But he is interrupted by Dev, who swings by charismatically to surprise Vyjayanthi. Vyjayanthi attends a neighbour's bride-seeing event. But things turn ugly when the prospective groom shows interest in Vyjayanthi instead ...

Vyjayanthi goes with Parimalam to Dev's house at night and signals him to come outside. Dev and Parimalam's eyes meet. Parimalam gives a knowing smile, aware that Dev is checking her out. Parimalam is walking outside Dev's house. She tells her mother that she wants to marry someone like Dev. Vyjayanthi has written a letter to Dev and sends a little boy as a messenger.

Vyjayanthi runs away, crying. Parimalam sees this. She narrows her eyes, guessing what might have happened. Susila talks to her mother for Vyjayanthi. She tells her about Dev and how both of them love each other. Kamatchy looks at Vyjayanthi sleeping. She thinks that it's about time that her daughter gets a good life. Dev starts to avoid Vyjayanthi. She is at a loss. She tries all ways and means but to no avail.

Parimalam comes to Vyjayanthi's house and tells her that she has spoken to Dev, and that she has to go to the dilapidated house at night. Vyjayanthi is overjoyed. Parimalam meets a thug later, and hands him money to play along in her game. Vyjayanthi treks through the woods to get to the dilapidated house. Parimalam bangs the door at Vyjayanthi's house. She pretends to be worried for Vyjayanthi. Her family wails at their embarrassment.

Vyjayanthi is pregnant. The naadi lady confirms this. Vyjayanthi does her best to hide her bulge from her family. She suffers in silence with morning sickness. Vyjayanthi sees Dev getting married to Parimalam. Sathappan comes at that moment to gloat and to claim his ownership over her. He pressures Sockalingam about the date. Kamatchy sees Vyjayanthi eating a mango secretly. She suspects something. She confronts Vyjayanthi ...

Dharma brings Vyjayanthi back home. Kamatchy tries to stop them from entering. Sockalingam is still at home. He finds out that Vyjayanthi had a miscarriage. Sockalingam dies due to sudden cardiac arrest. Kamatchy blames Vyjayanthi for his death. Vyjayanthi is devastated. Sathappan comes over to the house. He says he didn't want to mention anything during the funeral but that Sockalingam owed him alot of money. He shows them the deeds.

Vyjayanthi steps into Sathappan's house for the first time. Sathappan has no relative to welcome her in. He says that he doesn't mind that she was not cooperative since it was her first day. But tonight, she better be ready. He wants a heir. Vyjayanthi attempts suicide. Susila comes to her rescue. Dharma and Sathappan get into an arguement. To stop the fight, Vyjayanthi willingly goes back to Sathappan's house.

Vyjayanthi and Sathappan run into Parimalam on the streets. Parimalam's mother-in-law bursts out laughing at how ridiculous Vyjayanthi looks. She gives scathing remarks about how having money is not important but how to use it well and with style is. She goes on, saying that this happens when the undeserved get a windfall. Sathappan feels humiliated. Sathappan comes back home from the market, dazed.

Vyjayanthi starts to be nice to Sathappan. She cooks a sumptuous meal for him. Sathappan is surprised. Vyjayanthi tries to tell Sathappan that she had been pregnant. She doesn't want to hide something so important like that from him. Sathappan tells her that he knows about it. Vyjayanthi is touched that he still married her despite all of that.

Vyjayanthi is leaving the house. Sathappan stops her. He tries to console her and tells her that he didn't cheat her. A big confrontation occurs between Sathappan and Annammal. She demands that Vyjayanthi and her baby be chased out, and for her and her son to start living with Sathappan. Susila comes and fights with Annammal. She says that in Singapore, her sister is the legal married wife. Annammal slaps her. Sathappan doesn't stop Annammal.

Annammal locks her house door. Vyjayanthi heads towards them. Annammal raises her hands at her and thanks her for snatching her husband away from her, killing him eventually, tarnishing her son's reputation and for finally chasing them away. She says something demeaning about her different looks and leaves with her son ...

Susila laughs about the karmic connection. They reminisce about their past. While Parimalam pays Vyjayanthi, she speaks about how perfect and rich her life was. Devan makes advances to Vyjayanthi in the night. Parimalam sees this and screams at Devan for his indiscretion. Vyjayanthi overhears this and leaves the house. Susila tells her sister to forget the job. Dharma returns.

Dharma teaches Vyjayanthi a new skill to start a living. Vyjayanthi shows Dharma the box of jewellery that Sathappan had given her. Dharma tells her never to use them but to safeguard it for Samyuktha. Kamatchy sees Ah Siang. She runs away. On Vyjayanthi's birthday, Dharma organises a surprise party for her. Kamatchy is heartwarmed that something good is finally happening for her daughter. Susila meets a guy called Kaliaperumal.

Dharma and Kamatchy: Kamatchy asks him to look after Vyjayanthi. She admits that she is confused about Ah Siang. Makatchy dies peacefully in her sleep. Susila and Kali want to get married. Dharma talks to Susila. He encourages her to bring Kali's family over to the house to talk alliance. He will manage Vyjayanthi. Kali and his parents come over to the house. They are slightly puzzled by Vyjayanthi.

Susila comes home crying. Kali's parents have realised who is Vyjayanthi. They do not want Susila to get married to their son. Susila blames Vyjayanthi/ Dharma intervenes. Kali's parents brainwash Susila to leave her family. But they also do not want her to enter their house empty-handed. Vyjayanthi realises that Susila had run away with the jewellery. Vyjayanthi is watching her daughter play. Dharma is beside her.

When a well-wisher old lady tries to match-make Vyjayanthi to someone with another handicap, Vyjayanthi says no. The lady asks if her rejection is because of the teacher. Vyjayanthi nods, smiling. Vyjayanthi opens the door and is excited. Dharma remains at the doorstep. After some time, a lady appears beside him. Dharma is married. He explains to inquisitive Samyuktha about what had happened. Vyjayanthi listens with a smile. She accepts her fate.
