Huiqi, who can see spirits, meets Xiaolong's soul on a school trip, causing an accident involving Pengyou. Huiqi then meets her mother, Kehua, whom she has been avoiding, and they parted unhappily. Kehua runs "A Phase of Life". Xiaolong thought Huiqi wanted to commit suicide and saves her. Kehua wants to make up with Huiqi but suffers from a heart attack. Huiqi then realises Kehua has passed away.

Kehua does not know she has died, leaving Huiqi helpless. Later, Huiqi follows Kehua back to "A Phase of Life" and recalls an encounter with a boy at the hospital 22 years ago. The next day, Kehua sees Xiaolong and thought she met a ghost. Kehua visits the temple to seek help but was chased out by Master Li. Kehua later overhears Pengyou and Huiqi quarrelling, and learns that she has died.

Xiaolong asks Huiqi to find his body, or he would become a wandering ghost. Kehua asks Huiqi to help but accidentally possesses Huiqi in the tussle. Kehua fails to break free and decides to help Xiaolong in Huiqi's body. She learns that Xiaolong was an irresponsible husband and a gangster, and he reflects. While in Huiqi's body, Kehua meets a ghost Xiao'an and a young doctor, Haoming. Kehua attends her wake in Huiqi's body and agrees to run...

Huiqi accidentally chokes on a snack and ejects Kehua. She slaps Pengyou when awake and their relationship deteriorates. Huiqi meets Haoming again and is reminded of the boy from 22 years ago. Now awake, Huiqi denies agreeing to run "A Phase of Life" and quarrels with Pengyou. Huiqi suspects she was possessed. Huiqi chides Kehua for possessing her.

Later, Kehua meets Xiao'an's soul and suspects the cause of Xiao'an's death is complicated. Kehua asks Huiqi to help but was rejected. Kehua accidentally possesses Pengyou and meets Haoming, who is also worried about Xiao'an. They had a conflict with Xiao'an's mother and uncovers that Xiao'an was tortured to death. Huiqi finds Kehua and they quarrel again.

Kehua recalls the incident 28 years ago. Huiqi is actually her husband's illegitimate child. Huiqi and Pengyou quarrel over the sale of "A Phase of Life". Pengyou shares that he works at a funeral parlour and his blind date, Zixuan, shares she has brain cancer. Huiqi's neighbour, Youqing struggles to break the news that he has cancer. Huiqi confirms Haoming is the boy she met 22 years ago.

Pengyou and Zhiyin work as hostesses to raise money for "A Phase of Life". Youqing quarrels with his family over a tour package and Huiqi is reminded of Kehua's struggles. She apologises to Kehua. Zixuan kisses Pengyou, leaving him stunned. Youqing persuades Aiwei after news of her pregnancy spreads but is lectured. Youqing confides in Huiqi about his illness. Kehua realises her time is limited.

Wenjie learns that Youqing has late-stage cancer. The family is sorry about how they treated Youqing. Wenqing asks Huiqi to plan his funeral and Huiqi seeks Pengyou's help. Huiqi finds Pengyou and Zhiyin working as hostesses at the bar, and decides to keep "A Phase of Life". Huiqi and Pengyou help Youqing plan his funeral with his family. Youqing's death draws the family closer.

Pengyou meets his high school teacher, Huang Xiuping, who wants him to be a witness of Xiuping’s argument with the waiter at the restaurant. Kehua realises Huiqi is fond of Haoming, and Kehua is touched by his acts. Pengyou meets Zixuan on another blind date. Xiuping asks Pengyou to help find her student. Annoyed by the student’s attitude, Pengyou beats him up but lands in trouble.

Haoming and Huiqi start having feelings for each other. Pengyou finds Xiuping dead and holds a sea-burial for her. Pengyou suspects he had a paranormal encounter after seeing the date on Xiuping’s death certificate. Pengyou dares not go to work as he is afraid. Huiqi and Kehua help ease his stress. Zhiyin discovers the presence of souls.

Cuifang realises Kehua has always been by her side after she dies. Cuifang’s children quarrel over her bias at her wake. Kehua possesses Huiqi to talk to her children. Pengyou is surprised by Huiqi’s act. Pengyou tries to turn down the one-night stand and Zixuan gives up. Pengyou finds himself disappointed. Kehua meets Huiqi’s mother, Yi’an, who is in a coma, and learns that her husband has a dark side. She worries that Huiqi will meet Weiye after learning his relationship with Haoming. Pengyou wants to accompany Zixuan but she returns to Malaysia for operation. Zhiyin discovers Kehua’s existence.

Zhiyin accepts Kehua’s co-existence and is curious. Haoming saves Tiancheng, who fainted on the streets. He is Pengyou’s long-lost father. Weiye recalls the accident from years ago. He was actually the hit-and-run culprit. Pengyou is sad to learn that Zixuan has passed after a failed operation. Huiqi sees Zixuan’s soul and decides to fulfil her wish. She tells Pengyou that she can see spirits.

Huiqi shares her grievances, and Pengyou tries to overcome his fear of ghosts. Huiqi tells Haoming that she can see spirits and he is sympathetic. Just as they are getting affectionate, Pengyou spoils the mood. Haoming learns that Tiancheng has Alzheimer’s disease. Zhiyin receives news that Shaofeng died while mountaineering and finds the cause of his death. The next day, Zhiyin disappears.

Zhiyin learns that Shaofeng suffered from depression, and had an open dialogue with him in her dreams. Zhiyin shares her story with people with depression. Huiqi shows concern about Zixuan’s death and reconciles with Pengyou. Haoming makes his feelings known to Huiqi. Master Li visits Kehua. Haoming learns that Tiancheng is Pengyou’s father. Tiancheng escapes from the hospital but meets Pengyou.

Pengyou appears indifferent when Haoming asks about Tiancheng. Kehua avoids Master Li… Haoming and Huiqi’s relationship deepens. Pengyou is reminded of Tiancheng’s domestic abuse during a fight. Tiancheng had beaten his mother to death. Huiqi meets her school bully, Yang Aijia outside the hospital. Pengyou finds Tiancheng and is on the verge of killing him. Kehua looks for Master Li.

Haoming fails to convince Pengyou to forgive Tiancheng. Huiqi sympathises with Pengyou on hearing his past. Master Li tells Kehua she will lose her memory if she overstays her time. Weiye learns Huiqi is Haoming’s girlfriend. Aijia tells Haoming that she bullied Huiqi. Pengyou decides to end it with Tiancheng and goes to pick him up from the hospital. Yi’an seems to be awakening from comatose.

Yi’an wakes up miraculously. Weiye is worried that she would expose his acts. Huiqi decides to meet Aijia after talking to Pengyou, but Aijia’s vision has been affected by cancer and declines meeting anyone. Huiqi pretends to be a nurse, and Aijia shares about her guilt to Huiqi. Just as Kehua was feeling disappointed that Yi’an has lost her memory, Yi’an calls out to her.

Tiancheng mistakes a neighbour’s child for his son and causes conflict. Pengyou expresses his pent-up resentment over the years and Tiancheng is apologetic. The next day, Pengyou finds Tiancheng missing. He recalls the past which Tiancheng recounted and finds him dead. Yi’an is discharged and recalls some memories. Kehua tells Huiqi she is not her mother but Huiqi says she already knew.

Kehua brings Huiqi to see Yi’an. Huiqi let Kehua possess her to bid Pengyou and Zhiyin goodbye. She continues pretending to be Kehua and receives Pengyou’s confession surprisingly. Huiqi, Haoming and Pengyou face their feelings. Kehua spends a memorable night with Huiqi before leaving. Huiqi takes over “A Phase of Life” after Kehua leaves.
