With her dreams of taking over her mum's salon dwindling, Zoe's luck turns around when she unknowingly cuts the hair of a pop superstar, Ares Tan. She receives a shot of a lifetime of becoming a hairstylist at the famed Cutting Edge salon. But that is if she can overcome her competition and a mentor, hell-bent on proving that she is a fluke.

The competition to see who can be the one to join the Cutting Edge is set in motion with the first test being the ability to perform the fundamental C-Curl. Zoe, however, starts the program on rocky grounds as Russel, her mentor, is out to get her. In the meantime, she forms a closer relationship with one of her fellow trainee, Eureka, as well as with Ares.

Still reeling with anger from the showdown with Zoe, Russel wants her out of the Cutting Edge, but Remington gives Russel a different perspective. Torn but sated, Russel decides to give Zoe a chance at mentoring her backstage at the biggest event in the local entertainment scene. Meanwhile, a smitten Ares informs Zoe that he has begun writing a new song that she inspired...

After deciding that Zoe is deserving of a chance at the Cutting Edge, Russel brings her on a work trip like no other where he trains her and whips her into shape. Zoe soon sees another side of Russel. In the meanwhile, Ares is slowly spiralling and has no one to turn to except for Zoe.

Things heat up as Zoe and Russel's feelings for each other are tested by sudden incidents that befall them. To make matters worse for Zoe, her father finds out what she has been doing behind his back. Zoe also faces added pressures from the upcoming second test. Will Zoe be able to handle her feelings while performing for the test or will everything implode especially when a person from Russel's past returns.

Zoe, Russel, Ares and Kara's paths meet at the crossroads on this night where Ares is holding a launch event for his new song, and a showdown is inevitable. Will they be able to resolve their differences or will everything come to an explosive conclusion?

After a crazy night, Russel informs Zoe that he now knows where his true feelings lie and what he must do. Still processing all that has happened and with the upcoming third and final test, Zoe sets out to clear the air with Ares and prepare for the test. But her road to the top is not without setbacks as she loses her precious sketchbook and finds out who the guest judge for the final test is.

All roads have led to this - the explosive finale as Zoe puts everything on the line for her dream of becoming a hairstylist.
