Set in post 60’s Singapore, in rustic kampongs, and the colorful chaotic streets of Chinatown, FIGHTING SPIDERS is a coming of age, adventure, story of three boys – Soon Lee (Edwin Goh), Charlie (Liang Shijie Jason) and Peter (Frederick Fielding), whose friendship is tested when they go to Malaysia on a quest to find and return with the King Spider, so as to challenge their nemesis, and bully, Ah Huat. Every episode follows an adventure of the boys in the world of flying kites, fighting fishes, fighting spiders, first love and crushes, teenage lusts, and rebellion.

14 years old Soon Lee and 12 years old Charlie are good friends. Soon Lee has a crush on Yi Ling, a girl who works at a Chinese medicine shop. He ‘pontangs’ school with Charlie, to catch spiders, fighting fishes and fly kite.

The boys have to earn money for their trip to Malaysia to catch the Great Grand Chor Kong of all Fighting spiders, the Raja labah Labah. They hear of a legend of hidden gold in MacRitchie and they decide to hunt for it.

The boys hatch a plan to earn money again since they didn’t find any gold in their last adventure. They decide to sell snacks, like the kacang puteh man outside a cinema.

The boys embark on another adventure when they stumble upon a crazy old reclusive woman who lives all alone in a house. The woman wants to pay them to bury her children, who happen to be dead pigeons.

The boys attempt to raise money for their trip by renting out spiders. However, their attempts fall short when they hear of a new rival in Chinatown who is stealing their business with better spiders. Sam is the name of the rival.

The boys have been lusting after the hot kampung woman and finally decide to follow her. They lose her in Keong Saik road, a red light district and get their first brush with sex, up close.

Ah Huat seethes with rage from his previous humiliation along Keong Saik road. He makes life absolutely hellish for Charlie. Soon Lee learns that his mother is getting sicker. He wants to leave for Malaysia earlier.

The boys manage to hitch a ride to Johore Bahru but they get lost while trying to find their way to Sam’s kampung. They stumble upon an abandoned house. Or so they think. Until Charlie is captured by a GIANT SCARY COUPLE who live in the house.

The boys meet up with Sam, who rescued them from the Giant Scary Couple earlier. They set off into the jungle to look for Goat Head Rock. During their journey, Soon Lee begins to see Sam in a different light.

The boys separate – Charlie goes with Soon Lee to look for the Raja Labah Labah, while Sam stays behind with Peter. Charlie loses Soon Lee in a river accident. Charlie and Sam and Peter conduct a desperate search for Soon Lee. Charlie is devastated.

The boys return to Singapore. Soon Lee can’t forget Sam when he goes out with Yi Ling. Yi Ling discovers Soon Lee’s betrayal and is hurt. Soon Lee now has to find a way to make it up to Yi Ling.
