James, the star player of the university rugby team, loses his place on the team when he is caught visiting a seedy bar during an overseas competition. Having lost his sports scholarship, James fears he might need to quit school as he can’t afford it. Just when he thought all is lost, James gets an offer to restore his scholarship and become an athlete once again – in the cheer team.

James has a hard time trying to do the stunts in cheerleading and makes more than a few mistakes which annoys Chloe and the team. James also finds it difficult to accept that he’s a cheerleader and is embarrassed by it and tries to become the school mascot to prevent people from knowing that he’s a cheerleader. However, his actions don’t sit well with Coach Alina and the team.

James is struggling with cheer practice especially with counting and keeping in beat which doesn’t make him a good enough replacement that he was selected to be and his suggestions to change up the routine causes an argument between him and Chloe. Lukas and Hannah use different methods of training to get James become better at cheer although Chloe is still not impressed.

The cheer team is struggling with Chloe’s routine for the quarter-finals and Hannah suggests a different interpretation of the cheer routine which angers Chloe and causes her to lock heads with Coach Alina. This leads her to include James in the competition team. Sensing James is not competition ready, Chloe threatens to pull out if James is in the team which prompts James to decide not to participate in the quarter-finals.

After Chloe was adamant in keeping to the routine and almost causing them their place in the semi-finals, Alina decides to put James back in the competition team and partners him up with Chloe. James and Chloe work together and there’s a spark between them while the passion between James and Hannah starts to fizzle out. Meanwhile, Eric is stressed about the finances and decides to take up more jobs which unfortunately affects his health.

After his hospital stay, Eric is advised to not strain himself and to rest which makes James feel that he needs to step up. Seeing James and Chloe together at the bar and their continuous interactions causes Hannah to be jealous. Guilty of causing a rift between James and Hannah, Chloe tries to avoid them but James confronts her about this which leads them to acknowledge their feelings for one another.

With their relationship worsening, James decides to break up with Hannah. Hannah doesn’t take it well and it starts to affect her cheerleading. She wants to quit but decides to stay for the team and compete in the semi-finals. James gets cold feet during the semi-finals but Chloe manages to help him focus and the team does very well and qualifies for the finals. The team celebrates but Hannah is not around as she has decided to quit the team.

Although initiated by him, James doesn’t take the breakup well and decides to drown his sorrows in alcohol. Hungover and fatigued, James is unable to concentrate on his training which causes an accident where Chloe is severely injured and is unable to participate in the finals...

After discovering James had been kicked out of the cheer team, Eric tries to convince Alina to take him back but she remains firm in her decision but has a change of heart after James sincerely apologizes for his actions. James has a falling out with Matthew and ends his friendship after he discovers that he was the leak that got him out of cheer which leads to Matthew making a hasty decision.

It’s the week of the finals and Alina discovers that a video of the Wildcards routine had been sent to a rival team and an investigation points to James sharing the video from his phone. James is confused and discovers Hannah had sabotaged him out of anger. Alina threatens to quit if no one confesses so James decides to take the blame. Alina tells him that he will leave the team for good after they are done with finals...
