On The Red Dot: How To Be A Fringe Fan

Forget stamp collecting or gardening. From Ghost Hunters to Live Action Role Players, these are Singapore’s most interesting interest groups and extraordinary enthusiasts. In this web-only series, follow Rozz (Rosalyn Lee) as she immerses himself in some of Singapore’s most peculiar pastimes, becoming a card-carrying member of these fringe communities. She joins a Ghost Hunting group on one of their late-night supernatural sojourns, coming in close contact with the spooky kind. Rozz traipses through tangled trees, in search of fighting spiders to take into an arachnid arena. She is welcomed by a group of fixed gear bicycle riders, as she delves into their delinquent reputation. And finally, she unleashes her inner ninja, in a royal rumble with some Live Action Role Players. Along the way, she discovers what is involved in these activities, and grows to appreciate the hobbies and the people who do them (no matter how strange they get).

Why do some people spend so much time, energy, and resources on hobbies that seem unrelatable and alienating to the average Singaporean? What kind of tribes and communities have they built for themselves? Join host Rozz (Rosalyn Lee) in the second season of How To Be A Fringe Fan to meet more fanatic communities in Singapore and discovers what keeps fans so invested in their fringe hobbies. Rozz enters a foam blasting arena with blasters that are more than just Nerf toys. They are mini engineering projects that draw in a male-majority crowd. She joins a group that pays homage to a galaxy far far away and engages in a battle as a Jedi. A drone pilot herself, Rozz relishes the chance to race with Singapore's top FPV drone racers, but reality quickly sets in. Then, Rozz learns how to live a freegan for a week from the community and evaluates her own lifestyle.
